Qatari energy company Nebras Power acquires 49% stake in Australian wind farm

The GCC Western renewables acquisitions continue: Doha-based energy and investment company Nebras Power acquired a 49% share in Gold Wind Australia’s USD 750 mn 312 MW Moorabool Wind Farm in Victoria, the Australian Financial Review reports. Deutsche Bank was the energy company’s advisor for the acquisition.

About Moorabool: The wind farm — the continent’s sixth largest operating plant — has 104 wind turbines generating some 1 mn MWh of electricity annually, powering 10% of all homes in Victoria.

Not the Qatari firm’s first purchase down under: Nebras Power previously acquired a similar stake in Gold Wind Australia’s USD 506 mn Stockyard Hill Wind Farm in Victoria. The plant has a production capacity of 400 MW.

How much energy does Nebras own in the continent? The company’s latest acquisition brings its total stake in Australia’s wind energy-generated power up to some 800 MW, according to the news outlet.

Nebaras is expanding its renewables portfolio: The company has 22 power-generating projects in 8 different countries, producing some 6.7 GW of power. The portfolio includes 16 solar power plant projects — including a 52 MW AM Solar IPP farm in Jordan and a 125 MW Amin IPP solar plant in Oman.
